Mary Chadderdon, 94, passed away Sunday, March 19 at Brentwood of Niles in Niles, MI, where she had been living the last several years. She was born on June 1, 1928 to Clarence and Florence (Hartline) Ravish in Buchanan, Michigan. Mary was the oldest of four children. Her sister, Phyllis Beehler of Niles, MI, survives.  She was preceded in death by sisters Wilma Anderson in 2006 and Norma McPherson in 2016.

Mary graduated from Buchanan High School in 1946 where she met her classmate and future husband, Russell Chadderdon who preceded her in death. They were married June 1, 1947, and had four children:  Dale (Nancy) Chadderdon of Tecumseh MI, Ruth (Lawrence) Quigley of Cassopolis, MI, James (Connie) Chadderdon of Portage, MI, and Robert (Bonnie) Chadderdon of Niles, MI, all of whom survive. Mary leaves behind four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Mary was a lifelong member of the Buchanan Church of Christ (Buchanan Christian Church) where she had been active in various groups. As a young woman, she worked as an operator for Michigan Bell Telephone. Later, she worked 20 years for Buchanan Township as Treasurer. Mary was Treasurer for the Berrien County Treasurer’s Association and for SMCAS ambulance service, where she was also the board president for a short time. Mary and Russell enjoyed traveling around the country and listening to country music, and they were very community-minded. They volunteered at the Berrien County Courthouse Museum and were members of the Friends of Oakridge Cemetery, where they created a complete, bound directory of gravesite locations.

There will be a time for visiting with the family on Saturday, March 25, at the Buchanan Christian Church  from 1 pm to 3 pm.  A service will follow at 3 pm.  Donations in Mary’s memory may be made to the Buchanan Christian Church, RAM (Redbud Area Ministries), or the Berrien County Historical Association.   The family wishes to extend its sincere thanks to Brentwood of Niles and their wonderful team members.
