The head of the emergency department at Corewell Health in Livonia is working to help other medical professionals detect when they see a victim of human trafficking. Dr. Jaime Hope told Michigan News Network she took additional training and got involved in advocacy.

“I have a national speaking platform based on what I do,” Hope said. “I used the privilege as an opportunity to get to share with medical professionals and other people around the country how they can recognize a victim in front of them and what to do when that happens.”

Hope says the efforts are making a difference and more human trafficking victims are being helped. Human trafficking often involves a person being forced into prostitution.
