Cowboys 24, Lions 6 – Cowboys lean on defense in Prescott’s return, top Lions 24-6
Ezekiel Elliott ran for two 1-yard touchdowns and Dak Prescott threw for a score in his return from injury while the Dallas Cowboys leaned on their defense again in a 24-6 victory over the Detroit Lions. The Cowboys recovered Jamaal Williams’ fumble inside their 1 with a four-point lead early in the fourth quarter. Jared Goff was responsible for four other Detroit turnovers, in total, the Lions had 5 turnovers in the second half.  Prescott missed the previous five games with a fractured right thumb. He was rusty, but the Dallas defense led the way much as it did while Cooper Rush went 4-1 as the starter in Prescott’s place. Detroit fell to 1-5 last place in the NFL.  During the game, Detroit Lions receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown was ruled out in the first half because of a concussion. Brown took an arm to the head when he was tackled by Jourdan Lewis on a 4-yard catch in the first quarter.

Titans 19, Colts 10 – Titans sweep Colts for 2nd straight season with 19-10 win
Andrew Adams returned an interception 76 yards for the first pick-6 of his career, and the Tennessee Titans never trailed in beating the Indianapolis Colts 19-10 Sunday for their second straight sweep of their AFC South rivals. The reigning two-time division champion Titans won their fourth straight overall. They’ve now beaten the Colts five straight and six of their past seven. This was just their fourth sweep of the Colts since becoming division rivals in 2002. Randy Bullock made four field goals. His last two gave Tennessee its first points this season in the fourth quarter. The Colts turned it over three times and gave up three sacks.

Phillies 4, Padres 3 – Harper’s HR powers Phillies past Padres, into World Series
Bryce Harper slugged his fifth homer of the postseason, a two-run blast in the eighth inning that turned Citizens Bank Park into a madhouse, and the $330 million slugger powered the Philadelphia Phillies past the San Diego Padres 4-3 on Sunday and into the World Series for the first the time since 2009. Rhys Hoskins also hit a two-run homer to spark Philadelphia’s improbable run to the National League pennant and a shot at its first World Series championship since 2008. The wild-card Phillies were the last club into the 12-team playoff field this year after finishing third in the NL East.

Astros 6, Yankees 5 – Astros sweep Yankees in ALCS, advance to World Series again
Yordan Alvarez and Alex Bregman delivered big hits and the Houston Astros advanced to the World Series again, finishing a four-game sweep of New York in the AL Championship Series with a 6-5 victory aided by another defensive gaffe from the Yankees. Taking advantage of a costly error by second baseman Gleyber Torres to produce the go-ahead rally in the seventh inning, the Astros won their second consecutive pennant and fourth in six years. Rookie shortstop Jeremy Peña hit a three-run homer off ailing Yankees starter Nestor Cortes to help the AL West champions overcome an early 3-0 deficit. Peña was named MVP of the ALCS. Houston will open the World Series at home Friday night against Bryce Harper and the wild-card Philadelphia Phillies.

NASCAR – Larson wins at Homestead, holding off Chastain at end
Kyle Larson found his way into NASCAR’s headlines for yet another week. This time, for a much more pleasant reason. Larson held off Ross Chastain to cap a dominant showing in the second-to-last race of the NASCAR season at Homestead-Miami Speedway on Sunday, after leading 199 of the 267 laps over the 1-1/2 mile course. It was Larson’s third win of the season. And it came a week after the reigning Cup champion — who was eliminated earlier in this year’s playoffs — was intentionally spun by Bubba Wallace in an act of retaliation at Las Vegas.
