A Niles man is dead following a crash in Van Buren County on Friday. Michigan State Police out of Paw Paw say the crash happened around 9:45 p.m. on 90th Avenue near 67th Street in Keeler Township. Troopers learned a Ford panel van was westbound on 90th Avenue when it crossed the centerline and crashed head-on with an eastbound motorcycle driven by 27-year-old Darek Jamal Bullock-Mills of Niles. Bullock-Mills was thrown from the motorcycle and pronounced deceased at the scene. A 24-year-old female passenger on the motorcycle was also ejected. She sustained critical injuries and was taken via med flight to Bronson Kalamazoo Hospital.

Update:

Police initially reported the driver of the van was a Covert man who was intoxicated. On Monday, they announced additional investigation has found that man was not, in fact, the driver of the van and all charges against him have been dropped. Police say there was another person in the van who fled before they arrived. The positively identified suspect driver is still at large, but troopers know their identity and are actively searching for that person.
