July’s Love Local Weekend in St. Joseph is about to kick into gear.

More than 150 classic cars are set to cruise onto the bluff next week as the Mike Yore Memorial Car Show returns to downtown St. Joseph on July 15. The vintage vehicles will be on display along Lake Boulevard 4 to 8 p.m. as part of July’s Love Local Weekend, which takes place July 15-17.

“The Mike Yore Memorial Car Show has been going on for a few years now,” said St. Joseph Today Membership Coordinator Carly Hubers. “It overlooks the bluff and Lake Michigan there. You can walk along and peruse over 150 different vintage vehicles.”

Also Friday, the Lake Effect Jazz Big Band will perform from 7 to 8 p.m. at the John E. N. Howard Bandshell. On Saturday morning, visitors can participate in the the Race for YMCA 5K/10K or browse the St. Joe Farmers Market and Krasl Art Center Summer Art Market on the Green.

Saturday night features a performance by the Southwest Michigan Symphony Orchestra at the Silver Beach Shadowland Pavillion, while the movie “Soul” will be shown at Whirlpool Centennial Park at 7:30 p.m. The Love Local Weekend wraps up with another concert at the bandshell at 7 p.m.

“Love Local Weekends are jam-packed with summer fun,” said St. Joseph Today Executive Director Amy Zapal. “It’s amazing to see both long-time residents and visitors take part in all the festivities.”

As part of the weekend, several area businesses will offer extended shopping hours, featured menu items, and other specials. St. Joseph Today Membership Coordinator Carly Hubers added that Love Local Weekend is all about celebrating Southwest Michigan.

“The idea is just to bring the community out and about, and help engage local businesses and organizations,” Hubers said. “It’s a pretty fun thing to go and check out … there’s a lot of jam-packed activities that weekend.”

For adults over the age of 21, the Downtown District is open from noon to 9 p.m., and allows for the consumption of alcohol and food from local establishments within the district boundaries, which will be marked with signage. For more information on all downtown events, visit stjoetoday.com.
