John’s guest this week is Toya Wolfe, a first novelist from Chicago. They talk over her new book, Last Summer on State Street. It is a fascinating tale based on her experiences growing up in the Robert Taylor Homes on State Street in Chicago before it, along with many other high rise buildings within the mainly minority populations of the South Side of Chicago. It describes the environment in which 4 young girls alternately move close and away from one another in the troubled community of their multi-level buildings.
