A new 1,375 square foot mural is being painted at South Haven High School. Suzanne Loafman with South Haven Project CURB tells WSJM News the wall near the athletics entrance will soon be painted with images of rams matching the themes of strength, teamwork, and progress. The project is working with local artist Kayla Ridley.

“I think it’s going to take her until the end of June to get it done,” Loafman said. “She does have student volunteers helping her. They’re actually out there right now, priming the walls. Then she’ll sketch it out, and I think she has two days a week where she has six students at a time where she’s going to be painting with students. It’s going to be a hefty project, but Kayla’s done so many murals in the South Haven area.”

Loafman says the project started about a year ago, and in the beginning, it was just a pipedream. Now, it’s a dream to see the work happening. The painting of the mural should be complete in June and students will help to paint it. The $13,800 project is partly funded with a grant from the Michigan Arts and Culture Council and local donors.
