Thomas D. “Tom” Szymczak, 82, of Dowagiac, passed away, Tuesday, May 17, 2022 in Dowagiac, Michigan.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 1:00 P.M. Monday, May 23, 2022, at Sacred Heart of Mary Catholic Church, 51841 Leach Rd., Dowagiac, with Fr. Russell Homic officiating. Burial will follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Dowagiac. Friends may visit with the family from 10:00 A.M. until 12:00 P.M. Monday at Clark Chapel, 405 Center St., Dowagiac. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Tom’s name may be made to Sacred Heart of Mary Catholic Church or the American Cancer Society. Tom was born October 3, 1939 in Chicago to Matthew & Anna (Grzywna) Szymczak. On February 11, 1961, he married the former Susan Gacek in Chicago. The family moved to Dowagiac in 1974, and he later gained employment in the electronics department at Walmart in Benton Harbor. Tom retired in 2019 after twenty-three years of employment. Tom was a member of Sacred Heart of Mary Catholic Church. In his free time, he enjoyed reading and following his favorite Chicago teams, the Chicago White Sox & Black Hawks.
Tom is survived by his wife Susan; four sons-Chad (Jennifer) Szymczak of Paw Paw, MI, Tom (Rose Bonato) Szymczak of Calumet City, IL, Michael Szymczak of Elkhart, IN, Craig (Christi) Szymczak of Mishawaka, IN; nine grandchildren; his brother-in-law John (Sharon Stone) Gacek of Oak Lawn, IL; and several nieces & nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.
