The fourth annual Niles Renaissance Faire is set for this month. The Niles Renaissance Faire was started in 2017 by Carrie Nyenhuis when she was approached by a friend who worked for the city of Niles and offered the opportunity. She tells WSJM News the event will be at Plym Park on May 21 and May 22. You’ll be able to see people in all sorts of period costumes.

“You’ll see people in fairy costumes, there’s a queen there, people in armor,” Nyenhuis said. “We will have food vendors there. We have a story teller and an author, and we have two groups that do sword fighting. We have a comedian and a musician’s group.”

There will also be a blacksmith demonstration. Nyenhuis says the event last year attracted more than 1,700 people and it’s growing. She thinks people enjoy renaissance fairs because they invoke a sense of the fantastic. There will be vendors on hand and if you get hungry, you can buy an oversized turkey leg. Nyenhuis says the fair needs volunteers, and those who help out get free admission. You can sign up at NilesRenaissanceFaire.com. Tickets can be bought at the door, and it’s $7 for adults to get in, $4 for kids.
