John’s guest this week is Abra Berens, author of a new book on food, its growth, preparation and eating. The book, Grist, follows her award-winning Ruffage, and takes up where that book leaves off. They talk about the class of foods including grains, beans, seeds and legumes. But beyond that topic, she talks about her fascinating interviews with farmers who produce these essential foods, and she also explains the critical interrelation between food production and the total economy of our area and the nation.
