The Boys and Girls Clubs of Benton Harbor have named their St. Joseph Youth of the Year. It’s 18-year-old St. Joseph High School senior Myla Jackson. Boys and Girls Club Director of Operations Liji Hanny tells WSJM News she’s been with the clubs since age ten, and he’s watched her grow from a shy and quiet girl to someone with confidence who will let the world know she has a lot to offer.

“She’s a very strong, vibrant, smart, energetic, loving, caring young lady that all of her friends count on to not just be there to talk but be there to push them through their tough times as well,” Hanny said.

Hanny says Jackson is active in Boys and Girls Clubs programs including Smart Girls and Keystone. Now that she’s the St. Joseph Youth of the Year, Jackson will represent the Boys and Girls Clubs St. Joseph High School Campus in the organization’s club-wide competition that will include additional representatives from Benton Harbor and South Haven on February 24. The Benton Harbor and South Haven Youth of the Year will be selected in the meantime. The winner of the February 24 competition goes on to the state finals.
