Spectrum Health Lakeland Planning Drug Takeback Day

pills-2

Spectrum Health Lakeland is working with the Berrien County Sheriff’s Department to hold a drug takeback day this month. The hospital says it will be a chance for the community to dispose of unneeded prescription drugs in a safe way. The event will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, October 23 near entrance B at the Center for Outpatient Services on Hollywood Road in St. Joseph. Spectrum Health Lakeland says medications will be accepted in their original containers or dumped in a zip-lock bag. The drop off day is anonymous and part of the 19th annual National Prescription Drug Take Back Day, held by the U.S. Department of Justice Drug Enforcement Administration. Once drugs are collected, the Berrien County Sheriff’s Department will oversee their disposal. Residents with unneeded medications are advised to drop them off at a collection event rather than allow them to remain in the medicine cabinet so they don’t wind up in the wrong hands.
