White Sox 8, Tigers 7 – White Sox hold off Tigers with 8-7 win after benches clear
Eloy Jiménez hit a two-run home run, Yasmani Grandal homered to spark a six-run fourth inning and the AL Central champion Chicago White Sox held off the Detroit Tigers in a testy 8-7 win. The benches cleared after Chicago first baseman Jose Abreu and Detroit shortstop Niko Goodrum exchanged words when Abreu was tagged out attempting to steal second base in the ninth. Abreu had been hit by a pitch from Alex Lange one inning after the Tigers’ Isaac Paredes was hit by a pitch. There were no ejections. The loss was the 81st for Detroit, assuring that it will not have a winning record for a fifth consecutive season.

MLB – Last hurrah: Indians win final home game before name change
The Cleveland Indians won their last home game before they become the Guardians, beating the Kansas City Royals 8-3 to close a run that started in 1915 and will continue in 2022 with a new identity. Amed Rosario homered, drove in three runs and had four hits and Cal Quantrill pitched six strong innings to delight a Progressive Field crowd that came to see the Indians play one last time. Salvador Perez drove in two runs for the Royals. The home finale was the club’s final game in Cleveland as the Indians, ending a 106-year run in a city where the name will forever be attached to those of legendary players like Bob Feller, Larry Doby and Jim Thome.

Last Night
Dallas Cowboys 41, Philadelphia Eagles 21

Cowboys 41, Eagles 21 – Prescott, Cowboys beat Eagles in 1st home game since injury
Dak Prescott threw for three touchdowns in his first home game since he suffered an ankle injury on the same field almost a year ago, Trevon Diggs returned an interception 59 yards for a score and the Dallas Cowboys dominated the Philadelphia Eagles 41-21. Ezekiel Elliott ran for a season-high 95 yards and two touchdowns, and tight end Dalton Schultz had the first two-TD game of his career. Prescott was efficient outside of a fumble in the end zone that gave the Eagles their first touchdown.

NFL – Chiefs’ Reid released from hospital, plans to see team soon
Chiefs coach Andy Reid was released from the hospital Monday after he felt ill and was taken by ambulance to be treated for dehydration following their 30-24 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers. Chiefs spokesman Ted Crews said that Reid was “in great spirits” and that he planned to visit the practice facility later in the day or Tuesday. In the meantime, Chiefs coordinators Steve Spagnuolo and Eric Bieniemy ran the Monday film reviews. The 63-year-old Reid is expected to coach Sunday when the Chiefs visit Philadelphia.

NHL – Blackhawks G Lankinen removed from COVID-19 protocol
Chicago Blackhawks goaltender Kevin Lankinen has been removed from the COVID-19 protocol list. The 26-year-old Lankinen is coming off a solid rookie season, going 17-14-5 with 3.01 goals-against average and a .909 save percentage. He is expected to back up Marc-Andre Fleury this year.

NCAAFB – Coan’s status for No. 9 Irish up in air vs No. 7 Bearcats
Notre Dame quarterback Jack Coan’s availability for Saturday’s showdown with No. 7 Cincinnati won’t be known until at least Tuesday. Coan sprained his left ankle in the third quarter of Saturday’s 41-13 victory over Wisconsin. He was replaced by redshirt freshman Drew Pyne. Coach Brian Kelly says more information is needed before deciding who starts for the ninth-ranked Fighting Irish against the Bearcats. Tyler Buchner is also expected to be healthy but Kelly says either Coan or Pyne will be the starter.

NCAAFB – Chryst says Wisconsin’s troubles on offense go beyond Mertz
Wisconsin coach Paul Chryst says the Badgers’ problems on offense don’t rest solely with their struggling quarterback. Graham Mertz was 18 for 41 for 240 yards with four interceptions and a fumble in the Badgers’ 41-13 loss to Notre Dame. He threw two pick-sixes in the game’s final 2 minutes, 13 seconds. Chryst says his message to the sophomore is to stay positive. Mertz has thrown only one touchdown pass and six interceptions this season. Wisconsin needs its offense to improve dramatically as the Badgers prepare to host No. 14 Michigan on Saturday.

NCAAFB – Troubled Tigers: Clemson sliding from ACC, national picture
No. 25 Clemson is sliding out of the Atlantic Coast Conference and national football title picture after losing twice in September for the first time since 2014. The Tigers fell at North Carolina State 27-21 in double overtime and again had difficulty finding any offensive firepower. Clemson also lost key players on both sides of the ball due to injuries during the setback. Starting defensive tackle Bryan Bresee is out of the season with a torn ACL. Starting tailback Will Shipley will need about a month to recover from a leg injury.

NCAAFB – Utah football player’s slaying under investigation
Investigators have made no arrests but say they have several promising leads in the shooting death of University of Utah football player Aaron Lowe. Salt Lake City police Chief Mike Brown said Monday they have received several tips in the house-party slaying that also left a woman injured. Meanwhile, family and friends are mourning the death that came less than a year after Lowe’s teammate Ty Jordan died in an accidental shooting. Both are from Mesquite, Texas. Lowe is being remembered as a determined player and good friend.

NCAAFB – Washington State football player stable after shooting
Washington State University football coach Nick Rolovich says a Cougars wide receiver was in stable condition in a hospital Monday after being shot during the weekend. Rolovich says he was awakened early Saturday with news that 22-year-old Brandon Gray had been wounded near the campus in Pullman, Washington, while most of the team was on the road preparing to play at Utah. Gray has played sparingly and did not travel to Utah with the team. Police have arrested a man for investigation in the shooting.

Soccer – UEFA abandons disciplinary case against Super League rebels
UEFA has abandoned its case against Super League rebel clubs Barcelona, Juventus and Real Madrid due to court action over the pursuit of disciplinary action in regard to the breakaway. European football’s governing body initially paused the case in June against the clubs who refused to renounce the project which collapsed in April. Now UEFA has announced that “in the matter related to a potential violation of UEFA’s legal framework in connection with the so called ‘Super League,’ the UEFA Appeals Body has declared today the proceedings null and void, as if the proceedings had never been opened.”
