The U.S. House Problem Solvers Caucus has announced its support for a $973 billion infrastructure package proposed in the Senate. Congressman Fred Upton tells WSJM News the 50-plus member caucus decided to back the proposal, which is scaled back by about $1.5 trillion from President Biden’s initial proposal. Upton says this one is similar to the Problem Solvers Building Bridges proposal.
“It’s really focusing on traditional infrastructure needs like roads and bridges, and making sure that our energy grid is resilient against weather as well as cyber attacks,” Upton said.
Upton says official Problem Solvers support gives the Senate plan a boost.
“That’s a really good sign. Hopefully, we can work with the White House on this. We’ve had a number of discussions already over the last coupe of weeks. Talking to both Democratic and Republican senators over the last couple of days, they welcomed our support.”
Upton says he met with the president last week, and Biden is well aware of the negotiations taking place in Congress. He believes if the Senate can pass the plan, an infrastructure package could be on Biden’s desk by the end of summer.
