The Benton Harbor Area Schools Board of Education has signed off on pursuing a strategic plan for the district. Superintendent Andrae Townsel first brought the issue to the board in April and invited three consulting firms to make presentations. Speaking to the school board Tuesday, Townsel submitted a resolution committing to the idea.

“The district needs to pursue a long term vision by achieving academic and financial stability for the district, and a sustainable and stable platform for growth that will ensure the district’s integrity in a manner that will enable it to grow, prosper, and thrive,” Townsel said.

The board of education Tuesday voted in favor of hiring a firm, but still must decide which one to go with. That comes next. The district could have a new strategic plan by the start of the next school year. Townsel previously said he wasn’t left a strategic plan by a predecessor.
