The Michigan Department of Transportation says I-94 in Berrien County will be totally shut down at spots during the overnight hours three times over the next month as part of its US-31 expansion to I-94. Spokesperson Nick Schirripa tells us the agency has to remove some bridges, meaning travel in both directions will be closed in those areas.

“There’s going to be different detours out there,” Schirripa said. “They’ll all be posted. I think for most folks who live and  work in the area, they’ll know how to get around those closures. We’re going from 9 o’clock at night to 9 in the morning. 9 p.m. Saturday to 9 a.m. Sunday so there probably won’t be a whole lot of local traffic, and what local traffic there is, they’ll be able to find their way around pretty easy.”

The bridges being removed are the I-94 Business Loop bridge, the Highland Avenue bridge, and the Territorial Road bridge. The closures will all be Saturday night through the next morning. They are slated to start Saturday, April 17, Saturday, April 24, and Saturday, May 1. The detours will all be posted.
