A rally will be held on the front lawn of the state Capitol today calling on Governor Gretchen Whitmer to allow high school sports to resume in Michigan. Jayme McElvany is the organizer of the Facebook group titled #LetThemPlay, she says it’s all about the mental well-being of the children.

“The messages that I’m getting from parents telling me what their children are saying; that they’re walking into their 17-year-old son’s bedroom as he’s sitting on the bed crying that the world is just so sad and he doesn’t know how to come out of the sadness he’s feeling,” says McElvany. “We have kids saying they don’t know if anyone would attend their funeral if they died because they feel so alone.”

The rally is from 3-5 pm today — with speakers including doctors, nurses, superintendents, coaches, moms, and athletes who will address the importance of school and sports. 19,000 members statewide belong to the #LetThemPlay organization on Facebook.
