David Allan “Harv” Truhn, Sr., 76, of Buchanan, died peacefully Monday, November 23, 2020.
He was born May 15, 1944 in Benton Harbor, Michigan the only child born to William and Rose Truhn.
Dave was a 1962 graduate of Bridgman High School. He attended and graduated from Western Michigan University with a Bachelor’s Degree. He began his career with Grand Rapids Schools before moving home and teaching Industrial Arts in Galien Schools for the remainder of his career. He retired from Galien Schools in 1994. For a number of years, he had owned and operated the well-known Spanky’s in Three Oaks. For twenty-six years, Dave owned and operated Warren Dunes Concessions at Warren Dunes State Park. He cherished and appreciated all of the employees and friends he made during those times.
Dave was on the Three Oaks Fire Department for forty-four years. He wouldn’t miss any of his grandkids’ numerous sporting or school events. He and Kathy loved to travel, especially their annual trips to East Tennessee and Dollywood. He loved Dolly! For almost twenty years, they traveled to Disney World annually. The last few summers, they spent a couple weeks at Balsam Lake, Wisconsin, where he enjoyed fishing with his grandkids.
Dave never met a stranger and would give the shirt off of his back to those in need. He was a happy and genuine person. He taught his children and grandchildren to live life to the fullest and to laugh and be themselves. It didn’t matter if you knew him for just a minute or your whole life, he made others know they were special.
Dave will be greatly missed by family and friends. He is survived by his significant other Kathy Frame of Buchanan; three sons, Andrew (Tara) Truhn, Tim Truhn, David Truhn Jr. all of Three Oaks; Kathy’s children, Aaron (Kerry) Frame of Milan; Tara (Tim) Fox of Buchanan; Jeremy (Shannon) Frame of Niles; grandchildren, Jovie, Braiden, Kynzi, Tyler, Ethan, Lauren Tidey, Josh (Rachel) Tidey, Andrew Frame, Emma Frame; great grandchildren, Conner and AnnaMarie; and a host of cousins and friends.
Family and friends will gather for visitation Sunday, November 29, 2020 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in Pobocik Chapel Wagner Family Funerals, 106 Ash Street East, Three Oaks. Masks will be required.
The family will observe a private funeral mass.
Mr. Truhn will be laid to rest Monday, November 30, 2020 at 12:30 p.m. Oak Ridge Cemetery, Buchanan.
