The holidays are near, and so is the stress. Kelly Houseman, a licensed professional counselor based in St. Clair Shores, says this year’s stress level may be higher than in past years because of the coronavirus. Houseman says while 2020 is not what we expected, we can navigate the stress starting with caring for ourselves:

“There are some great free and even low-cost resources that you can do at home to help your health,” Houseman told Michigan News Network. “There’s online exercise classes, meditation, if you’re interested in a new hobby or class, you can do that virtually right now, and there are also meet up groups as well. While we may not be able to see other people in person, there are still great networking things that are happening, and all of these can help you improve your mental and physical health.”

Houseman says taking care of yourself will make the holidays better for you and your family. She adds a great way to appreciate what you have is to make a list of your favorite memories and lessons you’ve learned in 2020. Then she suggests making a list of your hopes for 2021.
