Oscar John Whisler, 80 of Coloma passed away Friday, Nov. 20, 2020 at White Oaks Assisted Living in Lawton.

A memorial service celebrating John’s life will be held at a later date when restrictions allow for a more social gathering that he would approve of.  His burial of ashes will be around his birthday in May on the family plot at Central Cemetery in Portage. John was born May 27, 1940 in Portage, Mich. to Hayes and Violet (Couchman) Whisler.  He graduated from Portage High School in 1957 and studied at Western Michigan University and Tri State University, following in his father’s footsteps in the electrical trade. John was a former journeyman electrician and business manager at IBEW Local Union 131, retired from Coldwell Banker Anchor Real Estate, and owned and operated F & F Distributing Company with his wife Elaine.  John was a member of the Coloma Lions Club, lifetime member of the Masonic Lodge, and a faithful member of Road to Life Church in St. Joseph.

Survivors include his children Gregg (Josie) Whisler of Midlothian, VA, Cheryl (John) Fink of Vicksburg, Jeff (Cindy) Whisler of Schoolcraft, Mitchell (Amy) Whisler of Grand Ledge; step-children, Sue (Ronnie) Carroll of Coloma, Vickie (Danny) Driver and Timothy Veal of Watervliet, and Candy Veal Modelewski of Benton Harbor.  Also surviving are John’s sister Beth Pomeroy of Kalamazoo, two nephews, and several grandchildren, great grand children, and great great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife Elaine in 2012.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Duffield & Pastrick Funeral Home, Coloma.
