Elijah Boyd

One autumn day, almost 25 years ago, a little more joy was added to the lives of Corene Boyd and Yuri Smith. This bundle of joy came in the form of a chunky-cheeked baby boy named Elijah Marshawn Boyd.

Elijah was born on November 26th, 1995, in Saint Joseph, Michigan. He was a happy baby; the apple of his big brother Isaiah’s eye and later, the protector of his baby sister Aisha. His chunky cheeks earned Elijah the nickname “Honey Munchkin” from his family that he absolutely loathed. But of course, as he grew older, they were forced to let that name go.

He was intelligent from birth and that intelligence grew into brilliance as a young man. Elijah enjoyed reading, playing video games, and watching Anime. He also loved to sing. Growing up as one of the many children at Straight Gate Pentecostal Power Church, he sang in the children’s and young adult choirs.  He received his education from Benton Harbor Area Schools and was part of the Benton Harbor High School graduating Class of 2013.

As an adult, Elijah worked as a pharmacy technician for Walgreens. He was always busy doing something; he’d learned to design portraits using his cutting machine, still loved to read, sing karaoke, and skating. With Elijah, there was never a dull moment. He was even in the process of writing and illustrating his very own Anime book!

On the morning of October 24, 2020, Elijah was too soon taken from us. Left behind to cherish his precious memory are his mother and father, Corene Boyd and Yuri Smith. Grandparents; Joantha Kelly and Willie Kelly. Brothers; Isaiah Boyd, Yuri Smith, and Yuriah Smith. Sisters; Aisha Boyd and Yasmine (Kaleel) Moss. Aunts; Alice Boyd, Annette Boyd, Yanesha Smith, Cassandra Kelly, Willa Kelly, Regina Kelly, Kimberly Kelly, Darlene Anderson, Roshanna (Bryan) Williams, Tabitha Kelly, and Angel (Nicholas) Ford. Uncles; John Boyd, Noel Boyd, and Robert Boyd. Nieces and nephew; Analea, Alaya, Ariyah and Isaiah Bobo, Jr. will always know that they were truly loved by him. One unborn nephew, Khi’lan Korien Boyd will know that his uncle was well-loved. Elijah will be missed greatly by all his friends and loved ones.

Elijah is preceded in death by Grandparents Elzene and Preston Tillman, John Boyd, Sr., Great Grandmother, Maxine Kelly, and Great-Great-Grandmother Maydie Kelly.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Robbins Brothers Funeral Home, Benton Harbor.
