Congressman Fred Upton sat in on a Zoom call with National Institutes of Health Director Francis Collins and Dr. Anthony Fauci on Friday. He tells WSJM News the two discussed the latest COVID developments, including one Upton finds troubling.

“The troubling news is that as we’re looking at folks who have tested positive and had bad reactions from COVID, there’s a sizable population now who’s had long-term issues,” Upton said. “In fact, they’re called long haulers.”

Upton said the two doctors will keep members of Congress in the loop as more is learned about those cases. Fauci did have something positive to say.

“Dr. Fauci thought that we would have a vaccine approved by the FDA before the end of the year.”

Of course, Fauci says there won’t be vaccine available for patients until early next year. Upton noted several companies are racing to make a vaccine. Among them is Kalamazoo’s Pfizer. He said the company is already manufacturing millions of doses to have them ready once approval is obtained.
