MSU Testing App To Help With COVID Contact Tracing

There’s a new app for students and staff at Michigan State University that will help to contact trace those with COVID 19. The app traces the phones of those who voluntarily tell it they’ve been diagnosed. Michigan Department of Health and Human Services spokesperson Bob Wheaton told Michigan News Network the app will contact those who were near the patient for 15 minutes or more.

“Right now it’s a pilot project that we’re doing with Michigan State University that’s available to anyone who is a student or staff at MSU or to anyone who is a resident of Ingham county, but it’s not available to anyone who is a resident of other counties,” Wheaton said.

The whole process is voluntary and uses Bluetooth. Wheaton says if it works they hope to expand the app throughout the state. The app is free under MI-Covid app on Apple and Android applications.
