Fred M. Duryee

Fred M. Duryee, 86, of St. Joseph, passed away, Monday, September 14, 2020 at Caretel Inns of Lakeland in St. Joseph.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held 10:00 A.M. Saturday, October 3, 2020 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Court & Market St., St. Joseph, with Rev. Michael Roth officiating. Private burial will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery in Berrien Springs. Memorial donations in Fred’s name may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church, St. Joseph or Caring Circle Hospice. Fred was born October 3, 1933 in Alma, Michigan to Dexter & Queenie (Cartwright) Duryee. He graduated from Unionville High School, Class of 1951. Fred entered the US Air Force and served during the Korean War. On November 21, 1964, he married Leah Earley Rievert in Sebewaing, Michigan. After moving to Texas, Fred assisted Leah in operating Duryee’s Bookkeeping & Tax Service in Duncanville & Whitney, Texas for twenty years. Fred & Leah moved to St. Joseph in 2017 to be close to their son Jim.

Fred was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in St. Joseph. In his free time, Fred enjoyed golfing, fishing, and in his younger years, playing softball & basketball. He was a sports enthusiast and rooted for the University of Michigan Wolverines & the Dallas Cowboys. Fred never met a stranger and welcomed everyone as a friend.

Fred is survived by his wife Leah; his son James Duryee of St. Joseph; two granddaughters-Melissa Ann Duryee of Berrien Springs, Emily Jane (Darin) Koenemann of Ft. Wayne, IN; his great-granddaughter Abigail Koenemann; his sister Darlene (Elmer) Scharich of Unionville, MI; and numerous nieces & nephews. Fred was preceded in death by his daughter Rebecca Rievert Duryee in 2017, his daughter-in-law Cathy Duryee in 2013, his twin brother Richard Duryee and his sister Sherril Schreyer.
