Legislation has been introduced in Lansing to eliminate the sales tax on purchases of personal protective equipment in Michigan. State Senator Aric Nesbitt introduced the bill as a way to help residents and businesses as they try to fight the coronavirus. Nesbitt says his bill would apply to masks, face shields, respirators, gloves, safety glasses, disinfectant, hand sanitizer, and soap. Nesbitt says everyone is seeing costs go up due to COVID-19, and his plan would “provide some relief to those who are already struggling and encourage people to follow safety protocols.” Nesbitt’s bills to eliminate sales and use taxes on PPE have been referred to the Senate Committee on Finance.
