A Black Lives Matter street mural is being planned in Benton Harbor. Benton Harbor citizen activist Trenton Bowens tells WSJM News it’s a grassroots effort that matches what we have seen in many cities around the country in recent weeks.

“The mural is going to state ‘Black Lives Matter’ in front of the high school,” Bowens said. “It will be a reminder to the young people, the students, and citizens of Benton Harbor that they do too matter and people are always thinking about them.”

Bowens says volunteers will paint the mural on Colfax on August 8.

“It’s going to be grassroots citizens who are coming together to show support and solidarity that we believe in Berrien County that Black lives do matter.”

Support for the effort is now being sought. Bowens says they need paint, rollers, paint pans, and monetary support. The goal is $1,500. You can find out how to contribute by viewing the flier below.
