Marsan Virginia (Beehler) Schaer

Marsan Beehler Schaer died June 28, 2020.  Her family will celebrate her life Friday, July 3, 2020 at 12:00 noon with visitation prior starting at 11:00 AM, at Hutchins Funeral Home in Watervliet.  Memorials may be made to American Cancer Society for cancer research.  You are invited to leave a message of comfort for Marsan’s family.

 

Marsan was born on July 28, 1941, in Springfield, Illinois, the daughter of Clarence and Mildred (Geier) Beehler. After attending Elmhurst College and Purdue University, she earned Bachelor and Master’s Degrees from Western Michigan University.  Over a 32 year teaching career, Marson taught at Lawrence High School, Lake Michigan College, and North Berrien Adult Education.

 

On September 23, 1962, Marsan married Darrin Schaer.  She and her family were involved for many years with the Great Expectations equine 4-H Club.  Marsan was a board member at the Eau Claire District Library, was a volunteer with Adult Literacy groups, was a reader, a traveler, and had hand-embroidered many table cloths.  She was a choir member, church organist, and director of Handbell Choirs.

 

Her children and grandchildren brought her joy.  Marsan is survived by: her husband, Darrin; her son and daughter-in-law, Brian and Tammie Schaer and their children Evan Joseph and Lauren Taylor; her daughter and son-in-law, Christine and James Kollath Jr., and their children Avery Chantal and Benjamin James.  She is also survived by her brother Ken Beehler, her nieces Susanne DiVanni and Dena (Tim) Garland, other family members, her church friends at Pilgrim Congregational United Church of Christ, the First United Methodist Church in Berrien Springs, and St. Paul’s Church of Christ, and by her friend and confidant, Gloria Muth.

 

Preceding Marsan in death were her parents, her parents-in law Ernest and Freda Schaer, her brother-in-law Gordon Schaer, her sister-in-law Carol Beehler, and her niece Kerry Jo Beehler Ridley.
