A grant of more than $263,000 is going to the Benton Harbor Department of Public Safety for new equipment purchases. The department says the funds come from the Michigan Department of Treasury via the Financially Distressed Cities, Villages, and Townships grant program. Benton Harbor Public Safety will use the money to buy a new compressor system with which to fill air bottles and to replace the public safety department’s self-contained breathing apparatus. Public Safety Director Dan McGinnis says the purchases will be a significant step toward the department’s modernization.
