Rosie Lee (Scott) Woods McCoy was born on July 11, 1937, the first of eight siblings, to Mr. Willie B. Scott and Mrs. Catherine Charlotte (Scott) Bailey in Mobile, AL. She accepted Christ at an early age. Her mother and siblings were brought into the Seventh-day Adventist faith at an early age. In 1953, Richard Woods, Sr. married the former Rosie Lee Scott in Alabama. In 1954, he and his wife moved to Benton Harbor and started their family. To this union, six children were born (Bernice, Joyce, Brenda, Doris, Karol, & Richard, Jr.). In 1966, she was married to Jeremiah McCoy, Sr., and to this union, three children were born (Jeremiah, Jr., Jarvis, & Jeffery). Rosie and her family were faithful and active members of the Main Street Seventh-day Adventist Church (HASDA) and former member of the Church of God in Christ.

Rosie was a nurse’s aide at Fuller’s Rest & Clarmont nursing homes in Michigan. She was a business owner of three stores, J & R Jutch Import & Export Co. Rosie was also a dedicated wife, mother, foster care worker for over 15 years, and retired homemaker. She always taught her children the love of Christ, hard work ethics, and good morals and values. She loved all of her children and grandchildren. During her pastime, she was an extraordinary cook, baker of many desserts including sweet potato pies, and had self-sacrificing love and service for others. Also, she created a loving home for her children and grandchildren.

In 1994, Rosie graduated from Eau Claire High School with her High School Diploma from the Adult Education Program. Rosie was a firm advocate of education for her children and grandchildren. She instilled within her children the value of completing their education. Because of her strong encouragement, example, and determination, all of her nine children graduated from Benton Harbor High School. In the summer of 2011, Rosie was re-baptized into the Highland Avenue Seventh-day Adventist Church in Benton Harbor, MI under the leadership of Pastor Zebron Ncube. She remained a dedicated member and witness at the Highland Avenue Seventh-day Adventist Church along with her other family members even until her death.
