As a state, we’re not overreacting to COVID-19. That’s the feeling of Beaumont Health president and CEO John Fox.

“This morning, we broke through 500 in-patients, and at this point we’re at 540 already today,” Fox said Wednesday afternoon. “We will be at 600 shortly, and we’re growing by 100 patients a day.”

Over the last two weeks, the hospital system has eliminated 80% of elective surgeries to allow more focus on coronavirus response. Governor Whitmer said Wednesday that Beaumont, which is one of the state’s largest systems, was nearing capacity. Michigan’s number of COVID-19 cases has risen to 2,295 with 45 deaths.
