The Benton Harbor Area Schools Board of Education has voted to honor former basketball coach Paul Wilhite by having his name placed on the high school gym floor. Wilhite was a coach for the school for 35 years before ending his time with the district in the early 2000s. At this week’s meeting of the school board, President Joseph Taylor read from the resolution to place Wilhite’s name on the court.

“Whereas the people of the community want to thank Coach Wilhite for not only being a coach, but also a great teacher and a friend,” Taylor read. “He is a legend.”

Therefore be it resolved that Wilhite’s name be added to the gym floor and the court will be renamed “Coach Wilhite’s Court.” Taylor noted the move will not require the use of any school district funds as supporters of the athletic program are raising money to make the honor possible.
