Gambling is expanding in Michigan. Governor Whitmer today signed bills legalizing sports betting and internet gambling through the state’s casinos. It’s anticipated sports books will be open around the state in time for the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament in March, but southwest Michigan gamblers might have to take a bit of a trip.

WSJM News reached out to the Pokagon Band which operates the Four Winds Casinos in Dowagiac, Hartford, and New Buffalo on the issue. The response that came back is that “the Pokagon Band and its Four Winds Casinos have no comment at this time on this issue.”

While sports betting is legal in Indiana, Four Winds South Bend does not have a sports book as yet. The Pokagon Band asked Indiana Governor Eric Holcomb to open negotiations on that issue and to add more table games in South Bend this fall.
