There’s a renewed effort to cut down on lines at Secretary of State branches across Michigan. Republican state Representative Matt Maddock of Oakland County told Michigan News Network this week giving banks the power to take on some of the Secretary of State responsibilities will help relieve long lines.

“I’m a big picture guy,” Maddock said. “We have very smart people working both at banks and at the Secretary of State’s office, and they’ll figure out a way to make this happen. It’s good legislation. I expect it to have bipartisan support. We’ve had over 20 cosponsors on the bill.”

Maddock is also looking to allow three year plate renewals and eliminate license plate tabs in favor of something more high tech.
