Police have an arson and assault suspect locked up in the Van Buren County Jail. Bangor police were called to a car fire on Center Street in Bangor early Friday morning, and determined it had been intentionally set. Later in the morning, a call came in about the arson suspect pointing a gun at someone at the Shell gas station on Broadway Street in South Haven. The man led South Haven, Bangor, and Covert Township police officers, as well as county deputies, on a chase, pointing a gun at them several times and twice evading stop sticks until officers were able to use a pit maneuver to stop the fleeing car. He was arrested without incident, and officers found a pellet gun and arson evidence in the car. The suspect’s name has not been released pending his arraignment on multiple felony charges.
