Flick Pick – Weekend Box Office Preview

Flick Pick is a podcast about movies. In this episode, Jacob Holmes goes solo while Andrew is out to talk about the four new movies opening at the box office.

First up is Dora and the Lost City of Gold, a live-action adaptation of the popular Nickelodeon preschooler show Dora the Explorer. Jacob thought this looked terrible, until he saw good reviews for the movie, saw who directed and wrote the movie, and is now mildly intrigued. Either way, it sounds like a solid family option.

Next is Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark, an adaptation of the popular books of the same name produced by Guillermo del Toro. It looks like a spooky good time, and Jacob will definitely be seeing it.

Our third movie is The Art of Racing in the Rain, yet another movie about a dog where the dog’s inner monologue is voiced by an A-list celebrity. This time it’s Kevin Costner. What can we say? It’s another tear-jerker dog movie.

Finally, there’s The Kitchen, a crime drama that’s actually an adaptation of a comic book from Vertigo, a label of DC. Yes, that DC. That technically makes it a DC movie. It stars Melissa McCarthy, Tiffany Haddish, and Elizabeth Moss as a trio of wives who try to pick up the criminal enterprises of their imprisoned husbands in 1978 New York City. It looks intriguing to Jacob, but it’s been getting trashed by critics.
