Larry Lee “Uncle Larry” Harden

harden

Again, death has invaded the rank of the Harden and Wimberly families and carried away a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, godfather, cousin and loyal friend.

Larry Lee Harden, affectionately known as “Uncle Larry” by his family and friends, was a very loving, kind and caring person who would help anyone in need.  He truly loved his family especially his sister Beulah and always had words of wisdom for those young men and women as it related to life’s journey.  Larry knew that Christianity did not exempt one from death, but that it ensured triumph over it.

On Wednesday, June 5, 2019, “Uncle Larry” made his transition to his heavenly home surrounded by his loving family and friends.

Larry Lee Harden, along with his twin brother, Harry, was born into time on July 25, 1948, in Benton Harbor, Michigan, at the former Mercy Hospital to the late Andrew and Carrie Harden.  He was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Andrew and Carrie; three brothers, Willie Harden, Harry Harden and Ozell Baker; three sisters, Sue Harden, Ethel Williams and Annie Lee Grey; and two nephews, Andrew Harden Jr. and James Allen.

At an early age, Larry dedicated his life to Christ as evidenced by him uniting in fellowship with the New Bethel Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. Mitchell Raspberry and later in life, he united with the New Covenant Baptist Church under the pastoral guidance of the Rev. Rodney C. Gulley.

Larry was formally educated in the Benton Harbor Area Schools.  His favorite pastimes were detailing and working on cars, riding bikes and hanging out with family and friends.  After 25 years of employment with General Motors of Lansing, Larry retired and later operated his own “Larry’s Car Wash” on Jennings Street.

On February 20, 2009, Larry met and married the true love of his life, Katherine Wimberly and immediately a blended family of four sons was united in love.

Uncle Larry enjoyed spending time with family and most importantly the precious time spent with his loving wife Kathy.  He was loved by many and had a one of a kind personality and special love and concern for his neighbors.  Jennings Street will never be the same, he will truly be missed.

Larry leaves fond and precious memories in the hearts of  his loving wife, Katherine Wimberly-Harden of Benton Harbor, MI; four sons, Larry “Kip” Banks Sr., Larry Harden Jr., Antonio Wimberly and Arthur Herndon; four special children, Lenar, Jawearia, Cindy and Darchelle Beasley of Lansing, MI; one beloved sister, Beulah Batiest of Grand Rapids, MI; 15 grandchildren, Larry Banks Jr, Shanice, Aria, Candise, Martin, Caleb, Skylar, Starr, Antonio Jr., Ayuna, Tia, Tiyanna, Arthur III, Antwan and Toure’; one sister-in-law, Alma Harden-Marshall; two brothers-in-law, Johnnie Walter and Raymond Wimberly; godchildren, Whitney Hudson, John and Ziyana Williams, Bryant Perry and Elliott Willford; special friends and brothers, Sean Wright, Tim Williams and James Edwards and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Family Funeral Home, Benton Harbor.
