Foster Care Open House Set For Friday

vanburencounty-2

There will be an open house for Van Buren County’s foster care system on Friday. Van Buren County Friend of the Court Lynn Bullard tells WSJM News the Judicial Court building in Paw Paw will host the event as speakers recognize the county’s current foster care parents and information is presented on how to become a foster parent. Bullard says there are 147 foster kids in the county now. There’s always a new need for more foster parents.

“Just somebody who is willing to share their home, open their home up, to support the child, to address any fears they might have, to be there to comfort them and encourage them, that’s what we’re looking for.”

Bullard says the goal of foster care is always to provide a good home for a child while work is done to ensure they can move back in with their biological parents. At Friday’s open house, the Foster Parent of the Year Award will be given out. It will be at the court from 10 a.m. to noon, and everyone is welcome.
