There’s another hat being tossed into the ring for the St. Joseph City Commission in this year’s election. Shawn Hill made his candidacy official on Monday, and says he’s been asked why he’s running. His response is he feels “it is my responsibility to give back to the community which has provided my family and I with so many blessings.”

Hill added that “while I did not grow up in St. Joseph, that makes me appreciate it even more and allows me to bring a unique perspective to the commission.”

A chauffeur and truck driver by trade, Hill says he’s gotten to know local businesses people who he feels might be forgotten about somewhat with the area’s tourism focus. He says his top priority is infrastructure improvements to the city’s water and sewer systems. Hill has also been a volunteer firefighter in St. Joseph Township and joins Al DiBrito and Susan Solon as challengers to the incumbents this year. Incumbents Laura Goos, Jeff Richards, and Lynn Todman are up for reelection. Tuesday at 4 p.m. is the filing deadline.
