Verda Ruth DeRosa

Verda Ruth DeRosa, 100, of Coloma passed away on Monday, February 18, 2019 at the home of her son, Timothy DeRosa where she had lived for the last 5 years.

Services celebrating her life will be held later in the spring at the Coloma Cemetery where her ashes will be buried next to her husband’s. Arrangements are by the Davidson Chapel of Florin Funeral Service in Coloma. Memorials may be made to Hospice at Home. Please share memories, messages or photos at www.florin.net.

Her life began on Jan 9, 1919 on the family farm on Hill Road. She was the second daughter of Walter and Beulah (Slenker) Koerber. Her early years were spent enjoying life on the farm and attending Cribbs School through 8th grade. Verda graduated from Watervliet High School with the class of 1936. After graduation she spent several years working at Faulkners Dime Store in Watervliet. She married her husband, Tom DeRosa, on Oct 20, 1940. Verda and Tom were high school sweethearts even though one went to Coloma and the other when to Watervliet. Tom passed away on Jan 15, 2006 after 65 years of marriage.

Verda enjoyed being a homemaker and supporting her husband in his many business endeavors. She enjoyed raising her 2 sons and cherishing the time spent with their grandchildren. Verda also enjoyed working in her yard and garden and playing card and board games. Verda and Tom lived in the area all their lives and were both family oriented. They loved having company and enjoyed sharing Tom’s good Italian cooking. The door was always open to family and friends.

Her family includes her 2 sons, Thomas (Nancy) DeRosa of Bluffton, SC and Timothy (Rene) DeRosa of Coloma; her grandchildren, Lauren (Lynn Raymond) DeRosa of Ft Collins, CO, Gregory (Michele)DeRosa of Carbondale, CO, Bradley (Amy) DeRosa of Misawauka, WI and Megan DeRosa of Camarillo, CA; her step granddaughter, Jamie (Mike) Ulch of Rives Junction, MI; her 5 great grandchildren, Carley, Abigail, Jolie, Josie and Kenna; her step great grandchildren, Hannah, Logan, and Nolan; her special nieces and nephews, her sister, Wanda Hembree of Coloma and a dear friend, Genevieve “Jenny” Bruche of Mishawaka, IN.

She was also preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Genevieve Koerber Hiler.
