Gene Salecker, author of several historical works; With Respect 03/03/19

Johns guest this week is Gene Salecker, author of several historical works, but focusing on his favorite, ‘Disaster on the Mississippi” about the explosion of the paddlewheeler “Sultana” at the end of the American Civil War, bringing about the deaths of more than 1,200 lives on the Mississippi River, the worst loss of life on the water in American history, save for the Titanic. They talk over his fascinating 4 careers culminating in his research and writing of the death of the Sultana, carrying thousands of Northern prisoners of war from the South to their homes in the North.
