Changes are coming for the St. Joseph lighthouse tours.
The Heritage Museum and Cultural Center tells us they’re adding Wednesday evening tours from 7 pm to sunset and Sunday afternoons from noon to 4 p.m. Tours are also being added on Friday mornings in August from 6 to 8 a.m.
“We realize that so many people in the community want to see the lighthouse and we wanted to make sure that more people could see it, that it was open more, that it was accessible, because it’s a city treasure,” said Kate Ulrey, Community Engagement Coordinator for The Heritage Museum and Cultural Center.
The tours will start Memorial Day and run through September 8. Ulrey says if you want a tour before Memorial Day, it is possible by calling the Heritage Center, provided the weather is good.
Another change this year is the elimination of the $350 fee for private tours. Instead, there will be a $50 fee to book that, plus an additional $10 per person in a group. Ulrey says they’re hoping that change spurs more private tours as well.
