Leatha Mickel

August 17, 1926 – February 6, 2019

Leatha Mickel, 92, of Benton Harbor, MI, went to be with the Lord on Feb. 6, 2019. Arrangements have been entrusted to Starks & Menchinger Funeral Home – 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph, MI.

Leatha was born on Aug. 17, 1926 in Milwaukee, WI to the late Adolph and Anna (Jeske) Polstin. She married the love of her life, Charles Mickel on Nov. 15, 1947. They celebrated 60 years of marriage before his death on March 18, 2008. Leatha retired from Imperial Printing in 1992. Leatha loved spending time with her family, especially during birthdays and holiday gatherings. She enjoyed gardening and spending time in her yard. She was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church in Benton Harbor.

Leatha is survived by her daughters – Laura (David) Cox of St. Joseph, Charlene Roland of St. Joseph, and Kathleen (Thomas) Seeley of Coloma; grandchildren – Jamie (Julie) Veersma, David (Bryanne) Masterson, Kristin (Brian) Morlock, Aubrey (James) McLaughlin and Jessica (Thomas Baker) Seeley; eight great-grandchildren – Seneca, Tyler, Vanessa, Jack, Olivia, Gavin, Hunter and Easton; sister-in-law Karin Polstin and caretakers and friends – George Stroba and Mary Kay Black. She is preceded in death by eleven brothers and sisters, great grandson – Jacob, sister-in-law – Maxine Mickel, and son-in-law – Jim Roland.

Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Monday, Feb. 11, 12:30pm, at St. John’s Catholic Church in Benton Harbor with Father Ben Huynh officiating. Burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery in St. Joseph. Family will receive friends for a time of visitation at Starks & Menchinger Funeral Home on Monday from 11:00am-12:00pm.
