The Michigan Maritime Museum in South Haven is getting ready to kick off another lecture series. Education Director Ashley Deming tells WSJM News the 2019 series will begin on January 16 with Jennifer Richmond-Anabeh, the collections manager at the Heritage Museum in St. Joseph. She’ll discuss the story of the Truscott Boat Manufacturing Company. The family-owned operation in St. Joe functioned during both World Wars.

“She lives in South Haven right now and so we’ve been working with her a lot with the things that we’ve done and certainly with some of the information for our current World War II exhibit as the Truscott Boat Manufacturing Company was one of those that transitioned over into making craft for World War II,” Deming said.

Deming says the Michigan Maritime Museum’s own river launch, Lindy Lou, is based on a Truscott Launch, and the company is featured in the current World War II exhibit. Later speaker series events will look at wind mill sails, the SS Milwaukee, and the building of tall ships. Anyone looking for more information can check out MichiganMaritimeMuseum.org.
