Tadeusz “Ted” Arendt

Ted was born October 27, 1923 in Kalisz, Poland where he spent his early years. After becoming a soldier in the Polish Army during WW II he escaped a labor camp and made his way through Finland and Sweden to settle in England for several years. He came to America to join his uncle living in Detroit, and worked for Ford for many years as a lineman and chef, cooking for top executives at Ford at that time. He left to open his own restaurant In Detroit for several years before returning to Ford. After retiring, he wanted to own land in beautiful Southwest Michigan and moved with his family to Berrien Springs. He later settled in Bainbridge Township where he and his family operated an apple orchard in Bainbridge Township for 29 years. Outside of work, Ted enjoyed dancing, singing, cooking, bowling. He especially loved reading and discussing history.  He was an active member of the Watervliet Knights of Columbus council, his church, and his children’s school activities.   Above everything, Ted loved his family, including his wife of 37 years, Jadwiga “Heidi” Arendt, three children, Michal Arendt of Chicago, Annette Arendt of San Francisco, and Monica Arendt of Washington DC, and his sister, Krystyna Piotrowicz of Poland.   Ted passed away on Saturday, December 22, 2018.  His parents, a sister, and two brothers precede Ted in death.  Friends may visit with Ted’s family Thursday, December 27, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Hutchins Funeral Home in Watervliet where a prayer service will be held at 7:30 PM.  Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, December 28, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Watervliet.  You are invited to leave a message of comfort for Ted’s family at hutchinsfuneral.com
