Successful Harvest Gathering Food Drive

Another Harvest Gathering food drive has wrapped up for the year. Michigan Secretary of State spokesperson Laura Lehman tells WSJM News branch offices collect items to be given to local food pantries each year.

“Our residents, as always, have been very generous,” Lehman said. “We were able to collect over 6,400 pounds of food and over $700 in this year’s campaign.”

Lehman says the branch office with the biggest contribution this year is in Sparta.

“They reach out to local businesses and work with local hunters, that sort of thing,” Lehman said. “So this year, they were able to bring in 4,100 pounds of food.”

Second is West Branch. The Secretary of State’s Office has participated in the Harvest Gathering campaign since 1999, and the campaign is coordinated by the Food Bank Council of Michigan.
