Muskegon and Kent counties were the first in west Michigan to pull the plug on prosecuting marijuana cases after the November 6 election, and Kalamazoo County has joined them. Prosecutor Jeff Getting told WKZO News with the new law decriminalizing small amounts of marijuana taking effect December 6, he sees no reason to prosecute.
“So that we’re not further using any of our resources, any of the court’s resources, in pursuing cases that the voters have said this is something that is going to be legal,” Getting said.
Getting has told police agencies in Kalamazoo County to let people go if they’re caught with 2.5 ounces or less of marijuana and are at least 21.
