Voters Not Politicians On Passage Of Proposal 2

The three proposals initiated by voter petitions have passed in Michigan. Among those is Proposal 2, which changes the way Michigan’s legislative districts are drawn. Voters Not Politicians founder Katie Fahey commented to Michigan News Network.

“We’ve officially ended partisan gerrymandering because the people of Michigan voted to make gerrymandering illegal in our state so no party can be benefited over the other,” Fahey said.

Fahey says now a commission of 13 registered voters will be randomly selected to be part of the redistricting process.

“Four Republicans, four Democrats, five independents come together and go across the state to listen to the people of Michigan to hear how they want their communities represented in Lansing and in Washington,” Fahey said.

Fahey adds that it’s all about giving the power back to the people.
