Victories For Nesbitt, Griffin, Whiteford

Tuesday was a good day for Republican state legislative candidates in Van Buren County. Winning the race for the Michigan Senate in the 26th District was Aric Nesbitt, a former state representative and lottery commissioner. He told WSJM News he’s ready to get to work as a lawmaker.

“I look forward to working on priorities of west Michigan voters that include lowering the cost of auto insurance, work to fix the roads, and continue to paw down the long-term debt so our children and our grandchildren don’t inherit the kind of long-term debt that we inherited from past politicians,” Nesbitt said.

State Representative Beth Griffin coasted to re-election, telling us she’s pleased the voters chose to send her back to Lansing to represent the 66th District.

“I’m just ready to get back to work to balance those budgets and increase the road funding a K-12 education funding, and then continue to hammer hard at auto no-fault reform,” Griffin said.

Running against Nesbitt was Democrat Garnet Lewis, while Griffin’s challenger was Democrat Dan Seibert. Also in Van Buren and Allegan counties, Republican state Representative Mary Whiteford won re-election.
