Second Loss For Van Buren Road Proposal

A second attempt to pass a county-wide road millage in Van Buren County failed on Tuesday. The millage was to bring the county’s primary road up to good condition as about 67% of the primary roads are currently in poor condition. What happens now? Van Buren County Road Commission Engineer-Manager Larry Hummel spoke with WSJM News shortly after Tuesday’s vote.

“Obviously, we have to continue to  move forward,” Hummel said. “We’ve got maintenance to handle as we always have each year, and we’ve got projects to continue to do and so those things that we have always done will continue, but we’re certainly going to have to figure out where we’re going to reset moving forward on that huge ocean of our primary system that’s in poor condition.”

Hummel says the road commission will consult its board about if and when they try for another millage proposal.
