A new 24,000 pound stainless steel sculpture is now at the Krasl Art Center as the institution prepares to unveil its new outdoor Sculpting Community.

The as-yet-unnamed piece by Chicago-based artist Richard Hunt will be the gateway into the Krasl’s sculpture garden. Hunt tells us it’s two arms extending about 22 feet into the air and coming together.

“It symbolizes outreach, coming together, [and] things like that,” Hunt said of his work.

Hunt says people entering the sculpture garden will pass under his work.

“Not only is it something you might you might walk through on your way into the museum, but it sort of is there to herald the presence of the museum as you drive by,” Hunt said.

Hunt’s piece is being installed this week and will be dedicated on October 27. That’s also the opening date for the Sculpting Community, which is to feature a shaded plaza, an updated entrance patio, green spaces, and sites for permanent and temporary sculptures.
